DEVELOPMENT OF FUNCTIONAL LITERACY OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Abstract
Functional literacy is becoming a key element of modern education, demonstrating not only basic reading and writing skills, but also the ability to apply knowledge in real life situations. Analyzing the problems of reading and text perception among schoolchildren in Kazakhstan, the article draws attention to learning disabilities that affect the formation of critical thinking and creativity. These results of the PISA international study show that Kazakhstani schoolchildren have difficulties interpreting the text, which reduces their competitiveness in the global arena. In a rapidly changing world where information comes in different formats, it is important to rethink approaches to learning. The emphasis on the development of functional literacy requires a combination of theoretical knowledge with practical skills, which is a difficult task for teachers. The article discusses various methods and technologies for the formation of these skills, which indicates the need for an integrated approach to learning. Thus, the study of functional literacy is becoming an urgent trend in modern society, requiring further study and implementation in educational programs to ensure successful socialization of young people.
