RETHINKING OF THE ROLE OF A TEACHER IN THE ERA OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: FROM A TRANSMITTER OF KNOWLEDGE TO A FACILITATOR OF EDUCATIONAL PROCESS
Abstract
The rapid penetration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into the educational space challenges the traditional learning paradigm, which centers on the teacher as the primary transmitter of knowledge. The purpose of this review is to analyze how the role of the teacher is changing in conditions where AI takes over the routine functions of storing, processing, and transmitting information. Based on the analysis of peer-reviewed scientific publications over the past five years, the article explores the evolution of the teacher’s role from a mentor with a monopoly on knowledge to a facilitator, tutor, and mentor who curates individual educational trajectories, develops students’ soft skills and critical thinking. The paper systematizes the key challenges faced by the modern teacher: the need to master digital competencies, the restructuring of pedagogical design, and the overcoming of psychological barriers. Concepts such as “hybrid intelligence”, AI-supported personalized learning, and ethical aspects of data use in education are considered. In conclusion, the findings on a new didactic model are formulated, in which the symbiosis of human pedagogical skills and AI capabilities allows the educational process to reach a qualitatively new level focused on unlocking human potential. The article is addressed to researchers in the field of pedagogy, teachers of all levels of education, and educational policy developers.
